Carlos Sainz tops day two timesheet for Williams in Formula 1 Aramco Pre-Season Testing 2025 at BIC

Formula 1 Aramco Pre-Season Testing 2025 continued today at Bahrain International Circuit (BIC), with Carlos Sainz of Williams taking the top spot on the overall timesheet.
Sainz, competing in his first year with his new team, posted a fastest lap of 1:29.348 during the afternoon session at ‘The Home of Motorsport in the Middle East’ in Sakhir.
Earlier in the day, Ferrari’s Lewis Hamilton was quickest in the morning runs. He set the pace with a 1:29.379 lap, going just ahead of former Mercedes teammate George Russell and Sainz, who was one of two drivers testing for the whole day today.
Hamilton’s mark was the second-best overall time of the day, with only three-hundredths of a second separating him from Sainz.
The Kingdom’s F1 fans were treated today to all the F1 action as BIC opened its gates to spectators.
Scores of motorsport enthusiasts attended the first of two open days and watched as all 10 F1 teams and their superstar drivers gathered data on their cars as they continued to prepare for the 2025 FIA F1 World Championship.
Fans are also invited to BIC on Friday (Editor’s note: 28 February) for the third and final day of testing. Gates are scheduled to open at 11am.
The tests will begin from 10am and continue until 2pm with its morning session. After an hour’s lunch break, running will resume from 3pm and conclude under lights at 7pm.

Tickets cost BD10 for adults and BD5 for children.
All those attending will be able to watch F1’s stars at work from BIC’s Main Grandstand and also enjoy plenty of off-track family entertainment in the circuit’s vending area. The attractions include a racing simulator tent, world-renowned BMX rider Viki Gomez, a team of roaming acts, and an F1 show car.
The 2025 F1 campaign gets underway in Melbourne, Australia from 14 to 16 March. The Chinese Grand Prix follows in Shanghai, China from 21 to 23 March, and then the Japanese Grand Prix will be held in Suzuka, Japan from 4 to 6 April.
F1 then heads back to the Kingdom for this year’s F1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix, taking place 11 to 13 April in Sakhir as the fourth round of the world championship.
In today’s morning test, Hamilton was in Ferrari’s SF-25, Russell in Mercedes’ W16, and Sainz in Williams’ FW47.
The others hitting the track were McLaren’s Oscar Piastri in their MCL39, Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso in their AMR25, Alpine’s Pierre Gasly in their A525, Haas’ Esteban Ocon in their VF-25, Racing Bulls’ Yuki Tsunoda in their VCARB 02, Kick Sauber’s Nico Hulkenberg in their C45, and Red Bull Racing’s Liam Lawson in their RB21.
Lawson was the other driver who tested the whole day for his team.
In the evening, others out on track were Charles Leclerc for Ferrari, Lando Norris for McLaren, Andrea Kimi Antonelli for Mercedes, Lance Stroll for Aston Martin, Jack Doohan for Alpine, Oliver Bearman for Haas, Isack Hadjar fo racing Bulls, and Gabriel Bortoleto for Kick Sauber.
Sainz maximised his time in the car today, completing 127 laps. He was a mere 0.031 seconds quicker than Hamilton, while Leclerc came third on the timesheet 0.083s behind.
Mercedes’ Russell and Antonelli followed in fourth and fifth, respectively. Both were also able to clock laps that were quicker than a minute-and-a-half, with Russell going 0.430s behind Sainz and Antonelli 0.436s back.
Stroll was classified sixth 0.881s adrift, Lawson seventh 0.904s off the pace, and Doohan eighth 1.020s from Sainz. Completing the top 10 were Gasly 1.082s from the top and Hadjar 1.327s back.
Ranked 11th through 18th, respectively, today were Alonso (+1.352s), Tsunoda (+1.445s), Piastri (+1.473s), Norris (+1.534s), Bortoleto (+1.709s), Hulkenberg (+2.109s), Ocon (+3.723s), and Bearman (+5.024s).
This year’s tests mark the fifth consecutive year that Bahrain has been selected as the venue for pre-season running. F1 testing was first held in Sakhir in 2009, then in 2014, and they have now been hosted by the Kingdom each year since 2021.
